A FABulous Love AffairOne of Subiaco's newest and coolest places to dine is Australia's Finest Burgers, also known as FAB. Summed up in it's name, FAB will show you how a burger is supposed to be. This exciting new restaurant had only been open a matter of weeks when Christie and I visited, but they knew exactly what they were doing, and how to do it. Infact, they had already established a strong base of regulars who were coming in every couple of days for lunch or dinner. FAB specialise in gourmet burgers - all natural, no preservatives, the highest quality possible - and you can taste the difference. Modern, clean and stylish, FAB's interior is primarily black and white. This sophisticated look is made a bit more relaxed - or dare I say cheeky - by fun tomato sauce containers in the middle of each table. Thanks to this sophisticated yet funky atmosphere, FAB's the kind of place you could easily have a business lunch, catch up with friends, go on a date, or take the family for a burger and a killer thickshake. It appeals to any demographic and there are even kid's activity packs to keep the younger ones happy. One of FAB's directors, Ian Aldridge told me they pride themselves on three main things - quality, health and local produce. Every ingredient is top grade, from the free-range eggs to bread straight from the New Norcia Bakery. Thanks to this supreme quality, the fact that everything is grilled and there are no preservatives, FAB's burgers are as healthy as they are delicious. Finally, Ian and his business partner Nick Mathias have scoured the state to find the best local produce for absolutely everything, from their beers and wines, to the relish, which is made in WA especially for FAB. Although there is a choice of about 250,000 burgers available at FAB (if you count all the possibilities of extras and 'Build Your Own' burgers), Christie and I were presented with three of their favourites - the Barra Burger, Chicken ABC, and Breakfast Burger. All of their burgers are served on fresh, sugar free burger buns with sweet mayonnaise - and all of them will blow you away. The Barra Burger is a feast of the most succulent WA Saltwater Bay Barramundi, salad and that delicious relish. The fish fell away when I touched it, and its gentle flavor was a welcoming change to the often overpowering 'fishy' taste seafood burgers can have. The Chicken ABC includes a breast of WA breast chicken, fresh avocado, back bacon, mature cheddar cheese and salad. This was Christie's favorite (thus I only got a few bites!) as the chicken was beautifully moist and the avocado added a refreshing surprise. The Breakfast Burger is served all day and is a sight to behold - Butterfield Beef, Prime pork sausages, back bacon, a whole Portobello mushroom, free-range egg and salad. I'm not sure how they get the egg so perfectly fluffy every time, but they do, and it would certainly be a meat lovers delight. As we were tucking into our burgers, a group of parents and their kids were seated near Christie and I, and we could soon feel their eyes on us as they gazed in amazement at the towers we were trying to eat with as much dignity as possible. I found I couldn't quite open my mouth wide enough, and so it was a knife and fork job for me. If you visit FAB, you just have to order a side plate of chips. They are cholesterol free and you can really taste the difference. Not at all oily, they are crunchy, rather addictive and thanks to the generous portion the chips would be great to share with friends. Christie and I were then treated to one of their Tim Tam thickshakes - and there was a reason I called them 'killer' before. Covered in fresh cream and with a Tim Tam biscuit sticking out, Christie was absolutely fascinated with how good the thickshake was. FAB use only ice cream instead of ice, so it isn't watered down, and the flavour was thanks to two chocolate Tim Tam's being blended in with the ice cream. One word. Heaven. FAB is fully licensed, and has 13 WA beers and 15 wines from all areas in the state's South. Every burger comes with a recommended beer and wine, which makes choosing the right drink for your meal a breeze. The team at FAB are very proud of the new product they have created - and they have every right to be. From the atmosphere in the restaurant to the personable staff, nothing has been spared to make sure every single patron has had a great time when they leave. Every ingredient on the menu has been personally chosen by Ian and Nick, to ensure only the finest quality is used. Whether you want to pop in for a quick lunch, or lounge around on the comfy couches for a few hours, FAB is able to cater for your dining needs - take away is also available for those on the run. Uncomplicated, fresh and stylish, FAB will probably be your newest favorite place to eat - it's certainly my latest love affair. How to be feature Cafe |
